After The Blackout - A Flickr

Yes, we really had one between 7:00-8:00 pm tonight. Fortunately, it was still light out when it started so I was able to round up a flash light and a battery-operated radio and even had batteries! Checked the news, but nothing. The portable phone wasn't working, but by the time I got myself together to check it out...the lights came back on.

I just figured out how to add "Flickr" to this blog...appropriate after a blackout. I'm waiting to hear from Blogger as to how to post my video.

I didn't pick up my mail today, so I'm living dangerously and taking the elevator down 14 floors (flashlight in hand, just in case).

Just been having a ball with all this techie stuff: photojojo, dumpr, and now flickr! Beats dusting and washing the floor any day!

After The Rain

This is the 2-minute video I made with photos I took of the Harrison Park Garden after a late afternoon Summer rain. It seems to be taking forever to upload, so I think I'll go to bed (it's 2:40 am) and see if it's done by morning!

OK...checked at 9:40 a.m. and 7 hours later the post still said "Uploading video." Published it anyway and guess what? No video!

I Made It to the Met!

Well, not really, but it is nice to dream. This is a fun web site called: www.dumpr.net (not kidding). You can put your photos in 1 of 4 different museum/gallery settings. I guess the frumpy looking museum visitors are to make it look more real.

Photojojo - A New Toy!

Haven't posted in a while because I found a new toy! It's www:photojojo.com. Besides photo products and instructions on funny photo stuff, there are forums where other photographers post pictures and "talk" to each other. Some great photos and some really helpful information. I even won the last "What Is It Wednesdays" contest, by recognizing the extreme close-up of the handle on a cheese grater.

In order to participate, I had to figure out how to post photos on "flickr" first, because posting from Picasa 2 blogger didn't work. So now I have a few photos on flickr. Since I'm still using dinosaur dial-up, it ain't easy! One of these days I'll have to break down and go DSL.

Some of the flickr photos have not been posted to this blog because they relate to specific photojojo forums, such as Flowers, Bridges, etc.
Check out: www.flickr.com/photos/bellearielparis and
www.photojojo.com and you can play too!

Chelsea - Inside and Out

Yesterday was a great NYC day. I spent about 4 hours walking from Penn Station to Chelsea, in and out of galleries. I saw 3 shows involving photography and of course, the Louise Bourgeois/Lynda Benglis sculptures. I got the OK to take the sculpture photos, but I didn't think it would be appropriate to take photos of photographers' photos. Besides the Bourgeois/Benglis works, the exhibit "The Sweethearts of Mr. Bartlett" (Morton Bartlett) was the most fascinating. There were 3 of his doll "children," his black and white photos, drawings, and the large color prints from his slides.

After a light lunch of delicious chicken curry at a Thai restaurant on 8th Ave., "Spice," a terrific performance by the Michael Swuin dance company at the Joyce Theater. After, iced coffee from Billy's Bakery on 9th Ave (I waited until I got home to dig into the cupcakes and lemon bars).

Tripping with a Tripod!

Finally decided to try out the tripod I bought (for a class at the Museum that got canceled). I think the close-ups are sharper than those taken with a hand-held camera. Still have to figure out how to change the camera angle to vertical while it's attached to the tripod. Got a couple of good photos of "Abigail," but I want to check with her "Mommy" before I put them on the blog. Also...was I supposed to use a remote trigger, instead of pushing the button on the camera? Guess I'd better check the manuals!

Storm King/Dia Thursday

Posted the graphics out of order...what else is new? I went to the Storm King sculpture park and Dia Contemporary Art Museum on Thursday, before the Monotype workshop. While the sculptures by Louise Bourgeois at Storm King and the artworks at Dia may have had a subconscious effect on the work I did on Friday...we'll never know. Both museums didn't permit photography in the galleries. It was so hot outdoors at Storm King that flinging down on the cool green ground looked tempting!

Monotype Friday!

A Fun Friday at the Museum...playing with the monotype technique. Always some new technique to learn from every instructor (and fellow artists).
