the second time's a charm!

Elegy for Robert Rauschenberg - Art 21

Well...that didn't work! I tried to embed the film and music from Art 21, but all I got was a blank white "canvas." Perhaps that is a perfect tribute to Rauschenberg...you fill in the blanks. I'll go back and add the internet address and you can see for yourself.

Doing Dallas & Ft. Worth!

Spent five days on a Newark Museum trip to Dallas & Ft. Worth. Wow...the Art & the Architecture were amazing. Also blue skies, great guide (Candy), driver (Arthur), docents, food (filet mignon at Dakota), service at the hotel (Fairmont), and fun companions (Merle & the Newark Museum travelers). And talk about photo ops...I snapped away on both the Fuji point-and-shoot and the Nikon DSLR D80. Between the 2 cameras I took 410 photos! TGFD (Thank God for Digital)! It will probably take me another 5 days to download, organize, and create a slide show. This certainly corrected my mental image of urban cowboys ambling down the streets of Dallas! In some ways it is a western New York City, except they seem to pull in the sidewalks a lot earlier (at least in the Arts District where our hotel was located. The Fairmont has the friendliest and most helpful staff. They greet you when you come in, go out, or are within 3 feet of approaching the reception desk. Steven and Philip even escorted our group as we walked to and from the Symphony Hall and a Tex-Mex restaurant. The first evening after dinner I mentioned to the Concierge that the room safe was not working, and the security rep escorted me up to my room, found the problem (dead battery) and fixed it within 10 minutes. The Fairmont certainly sets a high standard of service for a large hotel (500 rooms). Well, that's enough words....I have to start working on the photos.

Art Pride New Jersey May 14, 2008

Please go to http://www.artpridenj.com/ and contact your district elected officials. NJ Arts and history industries contribute over $2 billion each year to the State's economy. Let your elected officials know that proposed cuts to cultural support are not the answer to our economic problems.

Li'l Abner, New Hope and Lambertville

Full Moon Diet

Wednesday was a fun day. I got a free ticket for a bus trip to New Hope for a performance of Li'l Abner. First a brief stop at Washington Crossing to see a short film and a digital copy of the famous "Washington Crossing the Delaware" painting. Pre-theater coffee & pastry at "The French Cafe" in New Hope had Starbucks beat by a mile! There was a 2-hour "free time" break from 1-3 PM before a late lunch at Lamberville Station. It was a beautiful sunny day although a little on the cool, breezy side. I spent it walking over the bridge into Lambertville and taking lots of photos.

Got a kick out of this restaurant sign...they only serve dinner "every full moon." Now if I only ATE DINNER every full moon, I might lose a few pounds!
