Doing Dallas & Ft. Worth!
Spent five days on a Newark Museum trip to Dallas & Ft. Worth. Wow...the Art & the Architecture were amazing. Also blue skies, great guide (Candy), driver (Arthur), docents, food (filet mignon at Dakota), service at the hotel (Fairmont), and fun companions (Merle & the Newark Museum travelers). And talk about photo ops...I snapped away on both the Fuji point-and-shoot and the Nikon DSLR D80. Between the 2 cameras I took 410 photos! TGFD (Thank God for Digital)! It will probably take me another 5 days to download, organize, and create a slide show. This certainly corrected my mental image of urban cowboys ambling down the streets of Dallas! In some ways it is a western New York City, except they seem to pull in the sidewalks a lot earlier (at least in the Arts District where our hotel was located. The Fairmont has the friendliest and most helpful staff. They greet you when you come in, go out, or are within 3 feet of approaching the reception desk. Steven and Philip even escorted our group as we walked to and from the Symphony Hall and a Tex-Mex restaurant. The first evening after dinner I mentioned to the Concierge that the room safe was not working, and the security rep escorted me up to my room, found the problem (dead battery) and fixed it within 10 minutes. The Fairmont certainly sets a high standard of service for a large hotel (500 rooms). Well, that's enough words....I have to start working on the photos.
