Art & Music - In Unexpected Places

Went to a Valley Arts First Friday event in Orange with Cheryl. There between industrial buildings, a Mitchell Supreme Oil Delivery Truck Terminal and an elevated section of NJ Transit trains, we heard an excellent vocalist, a trumpet player, and a rapping DJ...all in the connected backyard of 3 buildings housing galleries and a studio. I'm working on imbedding a short slide show. Check out http://www.queenaaminah.com/ for music and http://www.terryboddie.com/ for art. We were also treated to wine, cheese, fruit and the opportunity to shop!

Lovely Lady - New Camera

Just playing around with the new point-and-shoot Olympus digital camera I bought. I couldn't resist the 20x optical zoom...great for museums and events where you can't get up close and personal. From my usual seat on the sofa, I zoomed in on this painting I bought many years ago at an auction. She fit in perfectly with the "English Garden" decor in the living room (about 20 years ago)! When I get around to it, I'm getting rid of stuff, picking a neutral palette and going for that minimalist look...lots less to dust and take care of (not that I've been doing much of that either).

Look Up!

Once in a while you have to look up from your PC, and wow! look at the sky from the terrace!

Scene in the City

After walking around for 3 hours at the NY Buildings trade show at the Javits Center (on behalf of the Harrison Park Marketing Committee), and lugging around 10 lbs of handouts, I treated my feet to a movie on the way back to Penn Station. Saw "Sex in the City"...well, loved the crazy shoes, hats and clothes, Penthouse Apartment, world's greatest personal assistant...and oh, that guy in the shower! On the way down 34th Street to Penn Station I couldn't resist the gorgeous view of the Empire State Building against the blue sky, so I whipped out the point-and-shoot Fuji and voila! I know...so touristy, but I luv NY!

There were also some beautiful views of the swamps at sunset between NY & NJ from the train window on the way home, but I thought the other 3 seat mates would think it pretty weird if I whipped out my camera, so I didn't. It had been a long day, and I wasn't in the mood for conversation...."why are you taking pictures," "what kind of camera is that," etc.

Yoruba Exhibit at The Newark Museum

Posted by Picasa

Just a couple of the almost 70 works of art in the exhibit, on view through August 24, 2008. The pieces are fascinating and are displayed in a beautiful setting, strikingly and
dramatically lit.

A great stop on a Museum afternoon after enjoying a "Jazz In The Garden" concert. Check out: www.newarkmuseum.org for more details.
